In my series But The Eyes Are Blind One Must Look With The Heart, I explore the conflict between the human tendency to seek meaning in sexual pleasure and the inability to find any. Using Craigslist Casual Encounters––now federally banned in the U.S under HR 1865––as a vehicle of anonymity, I connect with pseudonymous suiters in pursuit of sexually charged clandestine interactions. By engaging photographically, I reverse the expectations of sexual exchanges to generate a space where meaningful and empathetic interactions and dialogues can form. In doing so, I aim to decode the complex landscape of cybernetic desire to reveal a sobering visualization of people, spaces, and objects, existing behind the veil of discretion where a collision between fantasy and reality can occur.
